Winter sun, views and Prosecco

Milan, Italy
4 January 2020
Love that long winter sun. We
wanted to go skiing but
because it hasn't snowed in the
Alps for awhile we thought we
would give the new pair of
snowshoes a spin, but then we
arrived and the snow looked
pretty packed and no
snowshoes required.  We saw
people XC skiing and we just
decided to rent some skis. Our
XC skis need to be tuned up
and are in Serole where the
demolition is taking place. We
love to XC ski but hadn't done
it in years - lots in America, lots
in DE and only a few times in IT.
It was fun, tricky at first but a
great way to get some exercise
and vitamin D.

Now that the dreaded
doctorate is done we are
excited to be back to our
normal adventurous and active
selves.

We haven't been to Champoluc
in years and I was getting cabin
fever, so we busted out of
Zeccone and enjoyed a
weekend in the Italian Alps.

Day 1 : Snowshoeing - my
manly Han Weg hiking boots
blew out. I bought them in
2006 and never loved them so
that was fine but somewhat
disconcerting thinking what if
they broke on a really remote
trek?! Joe said duct tape - but
what if we didn't have duct
tape?
Day 2 : Cross country skiing.
We still suck because we
haven't done it in so long or
regularly, but I think, thanks to
climate change and age, it's a
good sport to take back up.

So lots of exercise, vitamin D,
local wine drinking and cheese
eating

What is coming up:

The vacation house foundation
project - when it was converted
from a stable to a residence
they just laid a thin layer of
cement on the ground and put
ugly tile on it. We have known,
that one day, we would need to
have it all dug out - about 40
cm or a foot, and have a proper
foundation put in - Three layers
of cement with water barriers in
between. And it needs to be
done by hand because you
can't get large equipment into
the house or cortile. Uff. I told
Gianni, the builder, that if he
found a body or a Roman road
to not say anything just
proceed. The project should
take us into March, fingers
crossed, but we are excited
about the new floor and other
upgrades.

Closer in secured, farther out
IDK ;)
I know that Apple watch.

Scuola Anahata Yoga,
January 2020
One of my goals this year is to
do a hand stand. Daily drills and
practice - well almost daily, they
take a lot of strength and I
don't want to get injured or
burnt out on trying. Obviously,
from this shot, I can hold it for
a few seconds, but I need to be
able to just hang out up there.
I think some practice on sand
or soft snow or a lawn would be
helpful.
I am getting there...
Look! Zaven came to yoga. He
said he couldn't touch his toes
and  he is only 22 so needs to
work on it. He has natural yogi
talent - beautiful alignment,
flexibility and strength . We have
been practicing a bit at home
too. I hope this is something
that he chooses to love and
continue.
