:: August 2018  ::
I am home for FOUR weeks. I
haven't been home for four
weeks in more than a year (and
a half, maybe more. eeek). My
eye twiitching is getting better,
not gone. Yet.
We are doing some fun updating
in Serole. Relaxing and resting.
Our first beach day - was lovely -
a good book and cold beers and
bobbing in the surf. The nut
festival next weekend. Friends
visiting. The annual high altitude
trek - this year in Switzerland.

August 2018
Italy

We found our new favorite
beach; Noli. We had been
going to Spotorno which
could be a little too...
I have been wanting to
paddle board and I loved it.
Of course I have no skill
and it wasn't really smooth,
but I got the gist of it and
look forward to doing it
again.
I have a love / hate relationship
with this 10K loop. The first 4K is
up hill but once you are up you
have beautiful views of the hills
and Alps and in August the
sunflowers are blooming, so really,
it is worth it.

We had HP friends visiting
with their dog Ollie and
went to visit the Drocco
Vineyard for a little wine
tasting and buying.

I love (all of) them

Our annual high altitude trek
2018 Matterhorn to Monte Rosa
(not quite), Switzerland

August 2018

We left our car in the parking
garage in Tasche and trained to
Zermatt (it is car free) - we
stayed the first night there and
had our fill of raclette and beer
and started out early the next
day to Hornlihutte at 3260
meters

Day 1| Zermatt to Hornlihutte: It
was about 6 hours of uphill and
a climb of around 1500 meters.
The hutte sits about 1000
meters below the summit and is
very modern. We had our own
room which is a total luxury. It
was fun to hear all the
languages, people come from all
over the world to climb the
mighty Matterhorn.

Day 2 | Hornlihutte to
Gandegghutte
I thought this one would be a
dawdle but my legs were still
pooped from the day before so
even though it was mostly
downhill it was a schlep.
One of the very best things about
trekking is arriving at the hutte or
rifugio and having a cup of hot tea
with honey and then beer or wine.
Or both.
We got to the Gandegghutte
around noon. The day was
beautiful and we got to stay in
one of the offsite little aluminum
tents by Swatch (wth?!) \ which
had down duvets and wool
blankets and beautiful views just
for us.
Being a vegetarian is challenging in
the mountains and I always feel
like I am being punished a bit and
given less. I pretty much survived
off of craisins, nuts, cheese and
potatoes.
Day 3 | We pulled the plug on this leg
because when we woke up, there was a
lovely sunrise over Monte Rosa which
quickly turned into rain with a forecast of
snow. We had schlepped our crampons to
get over the glacier to the Monte Rosa
hutte but visibility and conditions were
crap so we headed south instead, to
Zermatt

This year's
we-made-it-back-to-the-car-victory
photo was very much stages since we had
to take a gondola and a train to the car
which was housed in a Swiss parking
garage, albeit clean and state of the art,
but not lovely.
Auf Weidersehen Schweiß, bis bald!
The last days of
summer and
continuing the birthday
celebration.
We love our new found
beach; Noli. The lido is
Club Vittoria and the
hotel is Ca di Tobia
when we don't stay
the vacation house.
Joe had prosecco in
the room when we
arrived and totally
spoiled me. We went
for long runs and ate
excellent food. Read
our nerdy leadership
books and stared at
the ocean.
We had dinner at a
one star Michelin
restaurant -
Vescavado but my
favorite was L'Alice
Innamorata

Joe organized a lovely
beach aperitivo -
gorgeous fruit salad
and prosecco - love
Club Vittoria
My birthday was very
special! Lori invited me
to spinning at
Revolution in Milan.
Gorgeous spinning
studio, I have never
spun before, it was fun
and a great work out. I
definitely want to do it
again. Then we went to
the top of the building
for prosecco and to
enjoy the city views and
of course did a little
shopping.
Later Joe, Zaven and I
went to Pavia for
aperitivo and sushi

30 August

We have new tenants in
our German house so
had to drive up and do
the outgoing inspection
and the incoming. It
was a bit hectic but
Zaven drove with me
and was an excellent co
pilot. We also got our
Halloween pumpkins so
that was an added
bonus.
