The Leonetti Family - Italia

Vacay 2013 Calabria, Italy...Specifically, Tropea - by far our most beautiful vacation. We stayed in centro storico and it was perfect - the apartment was in a busy little piazza with restaurants & had a terrace with a view of the port. I took so many gorgeous photos I had a hard time choosing, but here are the best of the best. #thanksInstagram Zaven is visiting with Rael tomorrow and Tuesday. And then is off to Japan on Friday to visit the Matsugi family and see Minori...SO exciting! Very grateful. 4 agosto 2013
View lookinng down from the viewpoint to the beach and view looking up to the view point from the beach. We were pretty much in this vicinity - reading, napping, dipping and sipping for an entire week - it was heaven. .
The view from our balcony.
Below - the beaches filled up fast - Joe would stake a claim at around 7.30 AM before going for a run, so it is rare to have a view with no bodies or boats.
The first time I was in Tropea, in 2006, doing an immersion language program, I fell in love with the views of the rooftops from all the terraces. One of my favorite views.
Right: HUGE highlight - Capo Vaticano - just insane views and aqua marine water. Below right: The beach we stopped at - just around the cape from Capo Vaticano. Groticello?
Tropea is set on a cliff and the town has all these narrow streets - only a few are wide enough for cars. Just darling, but don't even think about wearing heels or wedges - you will seriously kill yourself - even the Italian women were wearing flats. #1000yearoldcobblestones Below right: It is 269 steps down and 269 steps up from the beach. Not sure how the old people or people with bad knees manage. But I do see them parked on the beach.. Ferried by friends?
Right and below ~ our cruise to the Aeolian Islands. It was AMAZING. We visited Vulcano, Lipari, passed Panarea and ended on Stromboli. We saw many dolphins (just amazing and playful) and lots of tuna - one jellyfish. No mermaids.
First stop Vulcano and the Sulfur mud baths...you are only allowed 20 minutes in the mud. It bubbles and is very HOT. And you stink ...badly even after showering. But it was fun and is good for you (?).
I loved Lipari - I am always looking for places at the end of the earth where you could get lost and never be found...I think Lipari is one of those places. Charming and isolated.
Stromboli - the beaches are black and we saw the lava flow. The volcano is always steaming. Not a huge thing for us ....growing up under Mt. St. Helens.

We started our vacation with a stop over on the way down in Anzio - south of Rome. Sun, surf, a little white wine and my pulse began to slow...
